My Experience with a Postpartum Girdle

October 11, 2017

Hey y’all!
Today I’m going to be telling you guys about a tool I used after having Gabe which helped me get my stomach back to “normal-ish” very quickly after giving birth! I shared briefly about my postpartum girdle experience on Instagram and had a huge response and lots of questions which I will address here!

The day I gave birth, and 9 days later

Many cultures have been using postpartum belly wrapping or belly binding in some form for thousands of years. This is nothing like the waist trainer corsets you may have seen, but it is a natural way to help bring your ab muscles back together, help your posture, and help your stomach shrink back to its original size faster than it would on its own after having a baby. Before and after giving birth, a pregnant woman’s body has lots of the relaxin hormone which helps relax your muscles to be able to stretch and open up for delivery, as well as shrink back to normal afterwards. The relaxin helps everything move more easily! Wearing a girdle after giving birth takes full advantage of the relaxin in your system to help move your insides all back where they belong quickly!

The day I gave birth, and 9 days after

I was sent a Bellefit girdle to use after having Gabe and I think it was very helpful and worked very quickly to help me get my shape back! You are able to use the girdle right away after giving birth, however I waited until three days postpartum to begin wearing my girdle. I did this because the first three days postpartum I was wearing those big awful (hilarious) depends diapers with giant pads that they give you after having a baby and it was just too much! Haha- Once I was in my regular undergarments I started wearing the girdle. The girdle goes over your underwear and has hooks so you can easily unhook it to use the bathroom without removing the whole thing. I used the dual closure girdle which zips closed on the side and has hooks in the front. You put on the girdle and then lay on your back on the bed to fasten the hooks. When I first put on my girdle standing up I thought “There is NO WAY this is going to fit my belly.” BUT when I laid back on my bed, my stomach and all that extra skin went in and I was able to hook all the hooks. I was amazed at how normal I felt right away! After giving birth, my stomach looked and felt like a deflated balloon! Very mushy and “hollow” feeling. After putting on my Bellefit girdle, I was magically back to my regular size and I felt like it held me together and just brought everything back to where it was meant to be! I wore the girdle an hour or two at a time around the house. I was extremely sore from birth and not doing much standing or walking the first couple weeks so I just wore the girdle when I was up and about, even if it was just briefly once a day. Each time I wore the girdle, I felt like my stomach was noticeably smaller. My family who was visiting was in awe of how quickly my stomach had shrunk in just a few days of wearing the girdle for a short time each day. It gave me so much confidence and made me feel like a normal human being again after carrying around a bunch of excess weight in my front! I also enjoyed wearing the girdle underneath my clothes. The girdle helped squeeze everything in so I was able to fit into my pre-pregnancy clothing. I was in disbelief that I was able to fit into a pre-pregnancy dress to take our first family portraits at just 5 days postpartum! I was wearing the girdle underneath this dress, but you can’t tell!

Wearing my girdle under my dress!

I will definitely hold onto my girdle and use it for all my future pregnancies! I’ve already convinced a few pregnant friends they need a girdle in their lives after giving birth! There are a lot of girdles on the market, but my advice would be to not skimp out and to make sure you buy a quality girdle like the ones from Bellefit. They are worth every penny and will help you heal quicker and help you gain your confidence back, which is priceless! New moms have so many raging hormones and a completely foreign looking body to get used to, so speeding up the healing process and helping yourself gain that confidence is so important mentally and emotionally! If you decide to try it out you can use coupon code RACHEL20 to receive $20 off your purchase! I do receive a small commission on any purchases made using my code, so it helps me out and helps you out too! 😉

The first photo is my deflated belly the day after giving birth. The middle photo is after wearing my girdle a few times a few days later, and the last photo was 9 days postpartum. I looked really awful in these so I did y’all a favor and cropped out my head. Haha

Let me know if you have any questions about my postpartum girdle experience in the comments!! Also, side note, I apologize for all the cell phone mirror pictures. So unlike me, right? But as a brand new tired mom, I was not about to bust out my real camera and ask someone to take photos for me, so this is just going to have to do! 🙂
