Hey y’all! So I just showed you guys how to make violet syrup from violets you can pick in your yard, but what on earth can you make with it? Sparkling violet lemonade of course. 🙂 My husband Ryan used to be a bartender so he’s excellent at creating delicious drinks I’ll love. I came up with the ingredients list of lemon juice, sparkling water, and violet syrup with the optional addition of vodka or rum to make it an adult beverage if you want. I like recipes you can easily just leave out the alcohol to make it great for those who don’t drink, when you don’t want a drink, or perfect for the kiddos on a summer day! It tastes just like lemonade with a bit of fizz and a hint of floral, and best of all- its PINK! The purple violet syrup mixed with the lemon juice made the drink a really lovely pink color without any nasty artificial dyes, which is the best of all! The entire drink is made from simple natural ingredients, unlike so many that are full of high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors, and colors. Yuck! You can definitely make this drink using regular simple syrup, but the violet syrup is what makes it so fun and special. 🙂
Here are the instructions! Keep in mind that the sweetness of your violet syrup could be slightly different than mine depending on how much you cooked it down, so adjust the drink to your taste, but use this as a guide to get you started.
- 1 oz lemon juice
- 1+ oz [violet syrup| (adjust to taste)
- 2 oz plain vodka or rum (optional!)
- lots of ice!
- Sparkling water, club soda, or other fizzy water of choice
- Fresh mint (optional)
- Add your lemon juice and violet syrup to a 12-14 oz glass. Also add your vodka if making an adult drink. Add lots of ice! (I made some pretty ice cubes by putting violet flowers and fresh sprigs of mint into ice cubes! It was a great addition.) using a shaker, or another cup, shake up your drink to get everything mixed well! It also breaks the ice up a bit and makes the drink extra cold and refreshing. Once you've shaken it all up, add your sparkling water/club soda to the top of your glass and stir it a bit. Enjoy on a hot day!
