Hey y’all! I just wanted to share a little personal post. I have a feeling personal posts will become a little more common over here once I have this baby. Blogging is such a great way to document little things in my life as well as share a little more about myself!
This past weekend, Ryan and I went to Virginia where I’m from so we could visit with my family and have a small “Baby-Q” celebration with family and friends. It was great!!
Can I be really honest for a second?
I don’t like baby showers.
I don’t mind attending them for others, but I really really didn’t want to have any for myself. Is that weird? Most people look at me like I’ve lost my mind when I reveal this. 😉 Any party or event where I’m the center of attention is a little torturous for me..Even when Ryan and I got married, I kind of just wanted to elope in private to avoid all the hoopla! Do any fellow introverts feel me on this?! I just really hate being the center of attention and I really hate opening gifts in front of people, the corny games, and all that. Its just not my cup of tea.
I found the “Baby-Q” idea on Pinterest and thought it would be a great compromise since people really wanted me to have a baby shower. I loved the idea of a casual co-ed cookout party to celebrate this new season in our lives, see old friends and out of town family, and maybe get a few things we need for baby Kaly!
Ryan and I intend to be really minimalistic with this babe. We’re not following all the “must-have” lists of what society tells you that you need for a baby. We have such limited space, and I feel like excess stuff and clutter only creates more stress and isn’t necessary. Because of this outlook we didn’t really care about being “showered” with gifts and we didn’t want gifts and presents to be the center and focus of our party! I completely realize that people are going to buy us gifts regardless of what we say, and we are super grateful for EVERYTHING, but we just didn’t want to have a party that was focused around receiving lots of gifts or have that be the reason for the party!
The Baby-Q was just like having a fun summer cookout! We grilled burgers, I made cute cupcakes, put up a few fun decorations, and that’s it! My dad prayed blessings over us and the baby and our new life and we chatted with old friends from church and got to spend time with family that we only get to see every few years. It was a great time!
My kind of “baby shower!” 🙂
Here are a few photos of our fun Baby-Q!
I wanted to wear something comfortable and summery but nice and casual and found this adorable top from Pink Blush Maternity! Everyone told me it was so cute and really showed off my little bump!! I can always count on them to have something perfect for every occasion! I’m having another “Baby-Q” for all our Tennessee friends and Ryan’s family here next month so I can’t wait to pick out another cute top or dress just for that. 🙂
